Urban Landscape
Urban Landscape is a mixed-media collage series that explores the intersection of contemporary city life and traditional cultural iconography. By juxtaposing fragments of the everyday urban environment with elements drawn from ancient Chinese ink paintings, the series constructs a new visual dimension that spans across historical epochs and cultural divides.
Emerging from a dedicated period of silk-screen printmaking, the physical process behind this series is an act of deliberate deconstruction and reinvention. Ready-made screen prints are dismantled and integrated with acrylic paint on wood panels to form entirely new compositional narratives. This tactile method of cutting, tearing, and layering dismantles rigid boundaries, celebrating a state of free-flow where the artificial, geometric architecture of the city seamlessly merges with organic forms.
Ultimately, Urban Landscape presents a surreal vision where established dichotomies dissolve. Within these terrains, the past and present, the human-made and the natural, as well as Eastern and Western paradigms coexist freely. The resulting works are both instantaneous and timeless, offering a Zen-like meditation on the layered, fragmented reality of the modern world.
